Green beans in a downward price trend in Poland

2021-06-22 11:43
Green beans are getting cheaper and at a faster pace. In the large wholesale trade, prices have fallen by an average of nearly 40 per cent since the beginning of the month, with a fall of 24.1 per cent over the last weekend alone.

Currently, prices of green beans at the large wholesaler are most often between PLN 10.00 and 12.00 per kg and this is already less than a year ago. But let's remember that a year ago in June we had terrible weather and prices of green beans remained high. Now it's still not cheap, as PLN 10 wholesale is up to  PLN 20 retail, a level that puts many consumers off.

However, if the weather does not disappoint, then bean prices should quite soon be at a much lower level - one that will stimulate much higher demand than at present and get this market moving. Recall that in 2019, at the end of June, the average price of beans at the large wholesaler was at PLN 5.00/kg. Admittedly, that year the first two decades of July saw the weather deteriorate and high prices return, but as you can see beans can be relatively cheap as early as the end of June.
