Greenhouse cucumber prices in Poland still under pressure

Prices of domestic greenhouse cucumbers have been under downward pressure basically since the beginning of this season. At one point (end of February this year), the fall in their prices was so dynamic that the average price at the large wholesaler was at a level lower than in the corresponding period in the five previous seasons. This can be seen in our graph below.

Now the situation is slightly better compared to past years, but pressure on Polish greenhouse cucumber prices continues. And this despite the fact that the winter weather with minus temperatures and snowfall has recently returned to Poland again. Sales prices at the large wholesaler were at the level of 5.50-6.50 PLN/kg, which averages out to 6.00 PLN/kg. This is a fifth less than in the same period last year.

Cucumber prices this season are not favored by the general situation on the market operating in the reality of the anti-covid regime. A very negative factor for demand is especially the continued closure of the HoReCa sector. In addition, prices for imported cucumbers have fallen sharply recently. In the wholesale offers of importers, long cucumbers from Spain are offered at 4.00-5.00 PLN/kg, nearly half the price of a month ago.
