Higher carrot prices in Poland

2021-01-13 13:39

Not much has happened on the Polish carrot market since the turn of September and October 2020, when wholesale prices of this vegetable fell by 29 percent. However, the Polish market was not an exception. The situation was similar throughout Europe. Prices were low and under pressure of supply - high in relation to current demand. Exports on the continent were negligible due to the fact that all countries had stocks from their own harvests.

Only the beginning of 2021 brought some indications that the situation might change. Improve from the point of view of producers. The possibility of an increase in prices has become apparent and the first minimal changes have already taken place. The Netherlands was the first country to move with carrot prices, but Poland has also started to make a move.

At the moment, wholesale prices for large-sized carrots (brushed carrots packed in 10-kg sacks) are typically 0.50-0.75 PLN/kg, 8 percent more than last week. A small change, but maybe it's not the end? Anyway, January is high time for the beginning of a longer upward trend in carrot prices. Our graph shows that this is a fairly typical phenomenon in seasons when prices were low in December. It is true that demand for carrots has not improved to any great extent, but it seems that the availability of quality goods is limited and this will affect prices in the coming weeks.
