Industrial apples in Poland- prices are up slightly but...

2021-02-03 11:03
It's winter, and not just the calendar winter. This means a partial "freeze" in apple processing, and thus a reduction in current demand for raw material for this production. On the other hand, something is going on in the processing industry and apples have to be obtained, and their availability is now limited.

Consequently, the end of January this year has even brought a certain strengthening of industrial apple purchase prices. Earlier the so-called "wet industry" was obtained by purchasers at prices of 0.30-0.35 PLN/kg, now it is 0.35-0.40 PLN/kg (with a tendency to narrow this range). This means an average increase of less than 9 per cent. So-called 'dry' industry is priced at 0.45-0.56 PLN/kg, earlier the range was also wider and started from 0.40 PLN/kg. So here, too, we have an average increase of about 6 per cent.

However, this is not an improvement that would fundamentally change the situation for growers in this respect. Prices are still among the lowest this season (excluding those at the beginning of the season). The previous season was also better in this respect. Currently, only apples for puree and juice purchased by variety have significantly better prices, with Golden being the most expensive, although it should be noted that the upward trend in prices for the latter has been halted and prices have gone from 0.70-0.80 PLN/kg to 0.70-0.75 PLN/kg.
