More Red Jonaprince apples in Poland than a year ago

2021-02-16 12:53
Traders' interest in Red Jonaprince apples remains one of the higher among the major Polish varieties. Provided that their quality is at a good level, which is not easy. As is typical for this variety, storage is difficult and the percentage of good quality stocks is decreasing.

As for the prices of Red Jonapricne apples, on the Polish market, they stabilized at the end of January in the range of 1.40-1.70 PLN/kg (purchase, caliber 70+). These prices are similar compared to the same period last year.

But according to WAPA data the stocks of Prince in Poland at the beginning of January this year were higher than a year earlier. They amounted to 150 thousand tonnes, while at the beginning of 2020 it was 100 thousand tonnes. Moreover, the data show that it is not only a matter of higher yields, but also a weaker sale. In December 2020, 30,000 tonnes of this apple disappeared from Polish warehouses, compared with 50,000 tonnes a year earlier.

Market information suggests that export sales of apples increased in January 2021, so it can be assumed that the dynamics of Prince's stock reduction increased. If data at the beginning of February (WAPA should publish them at the end of February/March) show stocks of this variety in Polish warehouses at 100,000 tonnes, the information about good sales will be confirmed (it will be "down 50,000 tonnes), but this will still be a significantly larger stock than in 2020, when at the beginning of February there were only 65,000 tonnes of Red Jonaprince.
