2021-01-20 12:06

The volume of onion exports from Poland in the 2020/2021 season (from August to November 2020) amounted to 49.34 thousand tonnes. This result is higher than that of the previous season, but only by 1,12 thousand tonnes, i.e. by 2,3 per cent. Compared to the same period of the 2018/2019 season, we see a decrease of 5.61 thousand tonnes, or 10.2 per cent. This can be seen in our chart one.

As for the value of onion exports, it amounted to PLN 107.05 million in the 2020/2020 season (August to November 2020). This is less than in the corresponding periods of the two previous seasons. Compared to the 2018/2019 season, we have a decrease of PLN 14.17 million, or 11.7 per cent, and compared to the 2019/2020 season, a decrease of PLN 22.080 million, or 17.1 per cent.

When it comes to the breakdown of onion exports by month of the season, we can see a month-on-month increase, both in terms of volume and value. In November 2020, compared to October that year, the volume of onion exports increased by 16.8 per cent and its value increased by 23.3 per cent. The dynamics of this growth was higher than in earlier months.

At the same time, the indicator for the value of the current season remained at a lower level than in the corresponding months of the previous two years. But already the volume in November 2020 was higher than that in the corresponding period of 2019.

In terms of average export prices, November brought an increase compared to October. The November price was 2.24 złoty/kg (bearing in mind that this is an aggregate value including regular, spring onions and shallots). And it was by 5.6 per cent more than in October.

The gap between average prices has widened month on month and the current season is looking increasingly unfavourable in this respect, as can be seen in the graph below. The November price was lower year-on-year by 0.22 złoty/kg, or 9.1 per cent. Compared to November 2019, the average price was lower by0.65 złoty/kg, or 22.5 per cent.
