Oranges prices in Poland are stable for now

2021-01-26 12:25

There was a lot going on in the Polish orange market in 2020. We have had two waves of large price increases for these fruit - one pandemic in March and April and another in June, which came after a temporary price "thaw". In general, oranges were among the food products that saw the largest price increases in 2020.

The popularity of these citrus fruit among Polish consumers remains high, but not as high as during the first coronavirus wave. In addition, the closure of the HoReCa channel is hitting the demand for juice oranges hard. And harvests in the producing countries are better, so the supply of these fruit is higher than a year ago.

Therefore wholesale orange prices are now significantly lower than in the same period last year. Then, in addition, we had the beginnings of an upward trend, now it is more of a stabilization after a series of downward corrections. Currently, wholesale prices of oranges offered by importers on a larger scale are most often PLN 3.00-4.50 per kg. This is on average 17% less than a year ago. But also by 7 per cent more than two years ago.

February should not bring any significant changes in orange prices. Unless the weather adversely affects the current production in the Mediterranean basin. March may bring more activity in price changes, including mainly upward trends.
