Preliminary bush fruit harvest estimate in Poland

2021-10-01 10:57
Shrub fruit production in orchards and on plantations in Poland in 2021 is estimated at less than 0.6 million tonnes, i.e. about 1 per cent less than in 2020. In a preliminary estimate from July this year, CSO experts forecasted a level of more than 0.6 million tonnes.

The preliminary forecast for the raspberry harvest in 2021 is less than 104 thousand tonnes, i.e. 15 per cent less year-on-year. The harvest of this fruit has experienced the largest decline in 2021. The initial forecast from the end of July was 120 thousand tons, so it was much more optimistic than the current one.

Currant harvest (total - black and coloured) is estimated at almost 153 thousand tonnes, i.e. by 4 per cent more year-on-year. Initial estimates showed the amount of a little over 150 thousand tons. Black currant harvest is estimated by CSO at over 112 thousand tonnes, i.e. by 1 per cent more than in 2020.

This year's production of strawberries (including production in home gardens) is estimated by CSO experts at 150 thousand tons, which means a growth by less than 3 per cent year-on-year. In the case of this fruit, we have a large change in relation to the initial forecast, which spoke of a volume of 177 thousand tonnes. This is the result of unfavourable weather conditions in July and August.

The gooseberry harvest is forecast at 9 thousand tonnes, i.e. 5 per cent more than in 2020. This is a similar level as in the preliminary estimate.

The harvest of fruit from bushes in the "other" category (chokeberry, highbush blueberry, hazel, grapevine and others) was estimated at 142 thousand tonnes, a level similar to last year. The initial forecast was for a volume of 135 thousand tonnes. The blueberry harvest is the largest in this group. In the current season, the yield of blueberries was worse than a year ago due to unfavourable weather conditions.
