Sour cherries - a weak start of the buying season in Poland

We are at the beginning of the buying season in Poland for cherries for processing. This year's season started with heat, storms and hail. Earlier, in spring, we had a delay in vegetation caused by cold weather. As you can see, nature does not pamper producers. So it promises to be a difficult campaign. Will it also be difficult in terms of prices?

It is still very early in the season. In fact, we are only warming up to it. However, the first information about purchase prices for cherries for freezing are not very good for fruit growers. The first purchasers offered 1.60 PLN/kg for this raw material.

This is less than a year ago. Maybe not much less, but always. In 2020 it was 1.70 PLN/kg at the start. Then the prices increased and reached 2 PLN/kg. Producers are hoping that this year too, as the campaign gathers pace, prices will be higher. There is unlikely to be any chance of a repeat of two years ago when, with a low harvest, prices of sour cherries for freezing started from an average of 2.00 PLN per kilo and broke the 3.00 PLN per kilo ceiling (the average in the fresh-market.pl quotation of 26.07.2019 was 2.35 PLN per kilo).
