Stone fruit - prices in Poland still higher than a year ago

2021-06-24 11:26
The season for imported stone fruit is developing on the Polish market. There is an increase in peaches, nectarines and Italian apricots, mainly imported from Spain. However, it is still evident that this year's season is even worse in terms of supply than the previous one, which was also not very abundant in these fruits.

Admittedly, it is already better than at the start of this year's season, when the harvest of early stone fruit varieties in southern Europe was decimated by the spring frosts. Varieties now coming to market have fared better, but stone fruit prices remain above the 'norm' and above levels of a year ago.

The exception is imported apricots, which are now being offered to the larger-scale wholesaler at 6.50-8.00 PLN/kg, averaging 7.25 PLN/kg (-27.5 per cent in the last month). A year ago it was PLN 7.50/kg. By contrast, in the more supply 'normal' 2019 season, the average price for this fruit around 24 June was 5.40PLN.

For peaches, larger-scale wholesale prices are mostly at PLN 6.00-7.00/kg, averaging PLN 6.50/kg (-13.3 per cent month-on-month). A year ago it was 5.50 PLN/kg and two years ago 4.60 PLN/kg.

Wholesale nectarine prices are now most commonly 5.00-7.00 PLN/kg, averaging 6 PLN/kg (-25.0 per cent month on month). A year ago it was 5.75 PLN/kg and two years ago 5.40 PLN/kg.
