The first domestic paprika is available on the Polish market

2021-06-23 10:29
The first domestic peppers have finally appeared on the Polish market, but with a considerable delay. For now, it is in limited supply, which can be seen in the prices it reaches in the wholesale trade and in purchase for the fresh market.

Buying prices of domestic green pepper are at 5.00 PLN/kg, and white pepper at 6.00 PLN/kg. In the wholesale trade it is 6.00-7.00 zł/kg for green and 7.00-8.00 zł/kg for white peppers. On average, this is about 20 percent more expensive than at the start of the 2020 season, when wholesale trade started as early as the first week of June. This means that domestic peppers will not get much cheaper by the end of this month, although the sunny weather is conducive to faster vegetation in greenhouses.

There is still a long way to go before domestic peppers are available enough to compete directly with imports. Although it should be noted that prices of imported peppers strengthened somewhat in June. Red and yellow peppers from Spain are most often offered by wholesalers at 6.00-8.00 PLN/kg, and green peppers at 5.00-7.00 PLN/kg. Dutch paprika at 8.00-10.00 PLN/kg.
