There are already imported aubergines on the Polish market

2021-10-06 09:44
The trading season for domestic aubergines in Poland is nearing its end. In fact, it's difficult to talk about a large wholesale of these vegetables, as their supply is already quite limited. In recent days, the late vegetation of these warm-loving vegetables has been favoured by sunny weather, but synoptics forecast a change to a cold and cloudy aura. This will most likely result in the end of the aubergine season from domestic greenhouses still in the first half of October. At least in the slightly larger-scale trade, they will be available for longer in the small wholesale trade.

The limited supply of these vegetables can be seen from their wholesale prices. Currently, they usually sell for between PLN 5.00 and PLN 6.00 per kilo. The upward trend in the price of these vegetables has continued, with few interruptions, since mid-August and current prices are already slightly higher on average than those of the same period last year. Now the average is 5.50 PLN per kilo compared to 5.00 PLN per kilo a year ago.

The gap in aubergine supply on the Polish market is already being filled by imports. Polish wholesalers are importing aubergines from Spain and their wholesale prices are similar to those of the Polish offer. They are 5.00-6.00 PLN per kilo.

In the Spanish province of Almeria, which is one of the greenhouse growing centres there, aubergine prices at wholesale auctions are currently in the range of €0.29-0.69/kg. This represents a minimal increase on the previous week, but in general this vegetable in Spain remains in a price hole, into which it was introduced by the downward trend started in the last decade of September.
