Bronisze: Greenhouse cucumber prices surge to €1.2–1.4/kg amid tight supply

Wholesale prices for greenhouse cucumbers at the Bronisze market near Warsaw have risen sharply, reaching €1.2–1.4/kg in mid-June due to a significant reduction in supply following earlier production cutbacks.

On the Bronisze wholesale market, greenhouse (smooth-skinned) cucumber prices increased rapidly in mid-June 2026. After weeks of low prices, current wholesale prices for greenhouse cucumbers are reported at €1.2–1.4/kg (5.00–6.00 PLN/kg), compared to €0.5–0.7/kg (2.00–3.00 PLN/kg) at the beginning of June. The main driver is a marked decrease in supply, as many producers reduced or ended production after an extended period of unprofitable prices.

Production cutbacks have resulted in a shortage of high-quality cucumbers on the market. Some growers terminated their crops early or skipped harvests, as previous prices did not cover production costs. This supply gap has led to the price surge observed in recent days.

In the segment of field cucumbers (spiny-skinned, produced under tunnels), the price situation is variable and depends on daily supply. The smallest calibres of field cucumbers are trading at €1.2–1.7/kg (5.00–7.00 PLN/kg), while larger calibres, mainly used for salads, are generally priced at €0.7–0.9/kg (3.00–4.00 PLN/kg) at Bronisze in mid-June.

Availability of domestic cucumbers from covered cultivation is increasing, but the market remains sensitive to fluctuations in supply. Higher daily arrivals can push prices towards the lower end of the range, while reduced supply results in rapid price increases. Demand is focused on high-quality, smaller-sized cucumbers, with wholesalers playing a lesser role in direct trade.

Weather conditions and the pace of the ongoing harvest will influence the next price movements. For now, the limited supply continues to support elevated prices for both greenhouse and early field cucumbers at major wholesale markets.
