Polish Early Potato Supply Rises, Wholesale Prices at €0.5–0.7/kg in Warsaw
Polish new potatoes have dominated wholesale markets in late June, with prices stabilizing as domestic supply increases. Imports remain present, but their market share is declining.
In late June 2026, Polish young potatoes are widely available on wholesale markets such as Bronisze near Warsaw. Prices for popular domestic varieties range from €0.5 to €0.7/kg (2.00–3.00 PLN/kg) for Irga and similar types. Yellow-fleshed varieties are slightly cheaper, but price differences between varieties have narrowed in recent weeks. Imported new potatoes, mainly from Egypt and Cyprus, are still offered at Bronisze, with prices of €0.5–0.6/kg (2.00–2.50 PLN/kg), similar to domestic produce. Imports are now mainly purchased by buyers seeking firmer tubers for specific culinary uses, rather than for price advantage.
Potatoes stored from the previous season have almost disappeared from trade. The remaining lots of Polish storage potatoes are sold at around €0.15/kg (10.00 PLN per 15kg bag), while imported storage potatoes from the Netherlands and Belgium reach about €0.22/kg (14.00 PLN per 15kg bag).
Polish potato imports remain significant. In the first four months of 2026, Poland imported 38,830 tonnes of potatoes, with Germany as the leading supplier. In April alone, 15,880 tonnes of potatoes were imported at an average price of €0.46/kg (1.98 PLN/kg). Notably, Greek new potatoes were imported at €0.62/kg (2.64 PLN/kg), while Spanish potatoes reached €0.70/kg (3.00 PLN/kg). Imports from Cyprus and the Netherlands were among the most expensive, at €0.66/kg (2.82 PLN/kg) and €0.98/kg (4.22 PLN/kg) respectively.
The area planted with potatoes in Poland for 2026 has declined to 185,120 hectares, down from 210,761 hectares in 2025, returning to levels seen before the recent expansion in 2024–2025. The largest potato-growing region remains Wielkopolskie, with 28,300 hectares declared.
Market demand for Polish young potatoes is strong, but supply from domestic harvests continues to increase and is expected to rise further in the coming weeks. Weather conditions have not been described as limiting supply in the available sources.
