Cucumber prices on the Polish wholesale market have sharply decreased after a brief surge last week, with supply returning to normal and strong buyer preference for field-grown cucumbers.

At the Bronisze wholesale market near Warsaw, cucumber prices experienced a rapid reversal in the week leading up to 25 June 2026. After briefly exceeding €1.2–1.4/kg (5–6 PLN/kg) due to temporary supply shortages, prices for most cucumber types have now fallen back to €0.7–1.4/kg (3–6 PLN/kg), depending on type and origin. Greenhouse cucumbers, both smooth and spined, are currently trading at around €0.7/kg (3 PLN/kg), with most lots selling for €0.6–0.7/kg (2.5–2.8 PLN/kg). Field-grown (polny) cucumbers, especially the light-skinned small calibres, are fetching higher prices of €1.2–1.4/kg (5–6 PLN/kg). In contrast, dark green spined cucumbers from protected cultivation are facing the lowest demand and prices, with sellers struggling to achieve more than €0.7/kg (3 PLN/kg).

Similar trends are seen at other wholesale markets. On the Kalisz Exchange, domestic field cucumbers are priced at €0.4–0.5/kg (1.5–2 PLN/kg), while greenhouse cucumbers are at €0.6–0.7/kg (2.5–3 PLN/kg). In Łódź at the "Zjazdowa" market, cucumber prices span a wide range from €0.7–1.4/kg (3–6 PLN/kg). At Poznań's WGRO market, field cucumbers cost €1.2–1.4/kg (28–32 PLN per 5 kg), and greenhouse cucumbers €1.2–1.4/kg (25–30 PLN per 5 kg).

The market is characterized by high volatility, with price swings of up to 100% within a few days. Last week's shortage-driven spike has given way to abundant supply from Polish farms, especially as field harvests accelerate. The influx of domestic field cucumbers is meeting strong consumer demand and preference, putting further downward pressure on prices for greenhouse and tunnel-grown cucumbers.

Retail chains have responded to the increased availability with promotional pricing. For example, from 25 to 28 June, Lidl is offering Polish field cucumbers at €0.9/kg (3.99 PLN/kg), a 60% discount, reflecting the wholesale price trends and ample domestic supply.

No significant new developments in cucumber imports or exports have been reported in the last week. However, there was a notable phytosanitary incident involving a rejected 6-tonne shipment of Russian cucumbers at the Kazakh border due to improper documentation, highlighting ongoing controls in regional cucumber trade.
