Warsaw region: sharp rise in cucumber prices as supply drops
Wholesale prices for greenhouse cucumbers at the Bronisze market near Warsaw have surged, with limited supply driving rates to their highest levels this month.
Greenhouse cucumbers (ogórki szklarniowe) at the Bronisze wholesale market traded on 16 June 2026 at €1.2–1.4/kg (5.00–6.00 PLN/kg), compared to just €0.5–0.7/kg (2.00–3.00 PLN/kg) at the start of June. The increase follows a significant reduction in supply after prolonged low prices led some producers to end production early or cease harvesting, despite plants being capable of further yields.
Producers reported that unprofitable prices in previous weeks resulted in the liquidation of some greenhouse cucumber plantations, reducing the availability of high-quality produce on the market. This supply limitation has been the main factor behind the recent price surge.
For short, spiny cucumbers (ogórki brodawkowe) produced under covers, wholesale prices are currently €1.2–1.6/kg (5.00–7.00 PLN/kg) for the smallest grades at Bronisze. Prices fluctuate daily depending on the number of suppliers present, with higher availability pushing prices toward the lower end of the range. Larger-sized cucumbers, mostly used for salads, are selling at €0.7–0.9/kg (3.00–4.00 PLN/kg).
Most of the supply at Bronisze is coming directly from domestic producers, with wholesalers playing a smaller role in cucumber distribution at present. Imports were not noted as a significant factor in current market dynamics for cucumbers in June 2026.
Demand from buyers remains steady, but the reduced domestic supply is the dominant influence on prices. Weather conditions and the pace of the next harvests are expected to affect future supply levels.
