Potatoes hold their prices on the Polish market

2021-11-08 11:46
Seasons with price increases between October and December are rare on the Polish potato market. The last time there was a clear upward trend was in October 2018. Previously, something like this happened in 2012, but for our analysis of the current situation, it is autumn 2018 that is much more interesting, because in 2012 prices were rising from a much lower ceiling. This can be seen in the graph below.

Currently, potato prices in the Polish large wholesalers are mostly between PLN 0.47-0.67/kg for yellow potatoes calibre 45+, PLN 0.53-0.80/kg for red potatoes and PLN 0.60-0.90/kg for white potatoes. Our chart shows that the average price, despite some fluctuations, has remained relatively stable between August and now, or at least there has been no downward trend.

This is a result of the fact that the current supply of potatoes on the Polish market is limited. And the conviction that the supply situation will not fundamentally improve in the remainder of the season. Consequently, there has not been the typical fall in prices in autumn, and thus there is a possibility of the aforementioned increase in potato prices even before the New Year, as happened in the 2018/2019 season.
