Portugal has begun an early Algarve strawberry harvest to meet the demand from the European Union.

Strawberry producers in the Algarve have started the winter harvest, with the first batches being sent to a Dutch supermarket chain and later to Christmas markets across Northern Europe. According to producer Luís Rocha, "it's starting to get cold there, it's starting to snow, and so they have to."
