The situation on the Polish wholesale potato market has slightly improved compared to January this year. The improvement may not be huge, as it's around 20 per cent on average in terms of prices, but compared to what happened earlier, it's still not bad. The first batches of cucumbers from the new domestic crop have reached the Polish market. Although these vegetables are available all year round, their supply is drastically reduced in January and the retail market (especially chain stores) is then almost entirely dominated by imports.

Winter is obviously not the period of a significant presence of highbush blueberry on the Polish fresh fruit market. In January and February, it has to be imported from far away - from the southern hemisphere. First, blueberries from Peru and then from Chile dominate these imports. read more

WAPA has published an updated estimate of pear stocks. As for the European Union countries, stocks of this fruit, as of 1 January 2021, amounted to 756,710 tonnes. A new season of domestic greenhouse tomatoes (round red) is starting slightly earlier than a year ago. As far as raspberry tomatoes from Polish glasshouses are concerned, they are available all year round, but in December and January, the supply decreases noticeably. read more

The past few seasons have not been easy for Polish growers of Red Jonaprince apples. And it did not depend on the size of the harvest of this variety and of apples in general. Of course, supply had an impact on prices, but both when prices were low and when they were high, producers of the popular "Prince" had to face the challenges of storing this variety. read more

We analyse the CSO data for the whole year 2020 and the production of frozen vegetables and fruit and vegetable juices as well as vegetable pickles. In this period, we can see a decrease in the production sector of juices, frozen vegetables and especially frozen fruits in relation to 2019. After a more pronounced improvement of onion prices in the Polish wholesale (almost by one third), which took place in November last year, we had to wait until January this year for another change in plus. Two years ago, January brought a sharp increase in the price of savoy cabbage at the large wholesaler. For January2019, the average selling price of this cabbage increased by almost 64 per cent to 2.70 zloty/kg.
