According to WAPA, the stock of Golden Delicious apples was 130,000 tonnes on 1 January this year. This is 30,000 tonnes more than last year (+30%), which could be worrying information, as larger stocks usually mean more pressure on the price. WAPA has published an updated estimate of pear stocks. As for the European Union countries, stocks of this fruit, as of 1 January 2021, amounted to 756,710 tonnes. The vast majority of these stocks, 529,920 tonnes, are Conference pears. A month earlier, the volume of pear stocks was estimated at 899,464 tonnes.

A new season of domestic greenhouse tomatoes (round red) is starting slightly earlier than a year ago. As far as raspberry tomatoes from Polish glasshouses are concerned, they are available all year round, but in December and January, the supply decreases noticeably.

We analyse the CSO data for the whole year 2020 and the production of frozen vegetables and fruit and vegetable juices as well as vegetable pickles. In this period, we can see a decrease in the production sector of juices, frozen vegetables and especially frozen fruits in relation to 2019. Two years ago, January brought a sharp increase in the price of savoy cabbage at the large wholesaler. For January2019, the average selling price of this cabbage increased by almost 64 per cent to 2.70 zloty/kg. A year ago this was much weaker, but still in January2020 the average price maintained a good level of 1.90 PLN/kg, rising to 2.00 PLN/kg at the very end of the month.
