In 2006, a pest arrived in Spain that affects tomato plants and causes great losses throughout the value chain. It is the Tuta absoluta, a lepidopteran leafminer that mainly attacks the leaves of the plant to feed on the parenchyma, a tissue involved in a wide variety of physiological functions, although it can also penetrate the fruit and cause some damage to it.
