Analysis of WAPA data on apple stocks.

According to WAPA data, in European Union member countries of this organization, as of May 1st this year, there were 1.3 million tons of apples. As of April 1st, 2023, the apple stocks were 1.9 million tons. The stocks of these fruits decreased by 618 thousand tons in April 2024. This is slightly less than in April 2023 when WAPA recorded a decrease in stocks by 624 thousand tons. The smaller decreases in stock levels in the following months resulted in the current stocks being higher than a year ago. In April of the previous year, it was 1.266 million tons, and now it is 1.278 million tons (+1 percent year on year). As can be seen, Poland remained the second largest apple holder among European countries of WAPA. The Polish apple stock on May 1st this year was 313 thousand tons. A month earlier, it was 505 thousand tons, and in April, 192 thousand tons of apples were removed from Polish cold stores. This is a much smaller reduction than the previous year. In April 2023, it was 230 thousand tons. Importantly, the volume of apple stocks in Poland - as of May 1st - remained lower year on year. In the previous season, on May 1st, 2023, according to WAPA data, Poland had 333 thousand tons of these fruits. More, but this difference decreased significantly in the following months. In Poland, the largest stocks of Golden Delicious apples were recorded. It was as much as 125 thousand tons (compared to 70 thousand tons the previous year). The reduction of Polish Golden Delicious in April was 45 thousand tons (compared to 40 thousand tons the previous year). The second position in terms of stock volume was held by two varieties with volumes of 55 thousand tons: Idared (compared to 80 thousand tons the previous year), with a reduction in April of 30 thousand tons (compared to 35 thousand tons the previous year), and Red Jonaprince (compared to 90 thousand tons the previous year), with a reduction in April of 35 thousand tons (compared to 50 thousand tons the previous year).
