"Angelite fir cone" chosen as potato of the year 2023
Since 2006, a committee has awarded an annual prize to an old potato variety to draw attention to the diversity. Similar to apples, there are many more varieties of potatoes than are offered in the supermarket. Around 300 potato varieties are still cultivated in Germany, according to the Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture Lower Saxony (KÖN).
