Apple picking is currently underway.

2024-07-05 07:30

The apple concentrate collection is currently underway. The processing industry is always eager to acquire this raw material, but this year the collection of concentrate is slow. The reason for this is the minimal supply of such apples. There is not much to process.

The orchardists are feeling the effects of the April and May frosts - there are significantly fewer apples on the trees compared to last year. Although, as is typical with frosts, the losses in the orchards are unevenly distributed, it is generally noticeable (on a national scale) that there is much less concentrate available compared to typical seasons. Hence, the significantly limited scale of the collection campaign for this type of industrial apple. Therefore, processing plants may continue to focus their attention on apples from last year's harvest.

Even in this case, the scale of the collection is already significantly restricted due to the small amount of available raw material. Nevertheless, the campaign is ongoing, and the demand is significant.

How are the prices of industrial apples shaping up? Currently, concentrate apples are being collected at prices ranging from 0.23-0.30 EUR/kg most commonly. These prices are therefore similar to last year's apple prices. For comparison, last year the season for collecting concentrate apples started around the beginning of the second decade of July, and the prices of this raw material were at the level of 0.11-0.12 EUR/kg at that time.

Regular industrial apples are being collected at stable prices of 0.21-0.26 EUR/kg most commonly (last year 0.10-0.12 EUR/kg). Meanwhile, the prices for collecting dry industrial apples are 0.23-0.30 EUR/kg, depending on the quantity and region of the country (last year 0.12-0.13 EUR/kg). Variety-specific apples and those for peeling, on the other hand, have prices at the level of 0.33-0.42 EUR/kg most commonly.
