Czech Republic: Frost decimates fruit harvest
The market for peaches, apricots, and nectarines in Poland has become quite crowded. In addition to the large quantities of imported fruits currently entering Poland, we now also have domestic competition. This is particularly noticeable in the peach segment. It appears that we are already at the peak supply of the summer stone fruit season.
This is evident from the price trends dominating this segment of the wholesale fresh fruit market. Since the beginning of the spring-summer season, there have been continuous and dynamic declines in the prices of all three fruit types. In the last month, imported peaches have decreased in wholesale trade by 36 percent, nectarines by 39 percent, and apricots by 35 percent.
Currently, wholesale prices for these fruits are as follows: imported peaches are priced at 4.00-5.00 PLN/kg (0.93-1.16 EUR/kg), which is one złoty per kilogram (18 percent) less year-on-year; imported nectarines are priced at 5.00-6.00 PLN/kg (1.16-1.39 EUR/kg), at a level similar to last year; imported apricots are priced at 5.00-8.00 PLN/kg (1.16-1.86 EUR/kg), also at levels similar to last year.
Polish peaches have appeared in wholesale offers, and their supply is rapidly increasing (although, of course, this is still a fraction of the market). Their selling prices in producers' offers are 4.00-5.00 PLN/kg (0.93-1.16 EUR/kg). In small wholesale, the prices of these fruits are at the level of 4.00-6.00 PLN/kg (0.93-1.39 EUR/kg). Domestic apricots are also already available. The prices of these fruits in producers' offers are currently 7.00-11.00 PLN/kg (1.63-2.56 EUR/kg), and in small wholesale from 7.00 to 12.00 PLN/kg (1.63-2.79 EUR/kg).
