Industrial apples - unfortunately, a precise repetition of a well-known scenario.
The last week of September is marked by a drop in prices of industrial apples. And this is a repetition of a well-known and often played scenario, which processing plants have apparently mastered to perfection. Unfortunately, many orchardists have panicked again and with determination delivered the produce to collection points, just to beat the next price cut.
They delivered, as if refusing to believe the assessments that this price cut, like the previous ones this season, will necessarily be fairly short-lived. It will indeed be shorter, the fewer orchardists decide to play along with this scenario for the processing plants. The previous one, until the prices started going up again, lasted 3 weeks. What will happen now?
It is worth noting a few facts. Firstly, in a large part of the country, the apple harvest is already over and there is not even anything lying under the trees. There are few fruits, or even very few. For now, the processing sector is experiencing some increase in deliveries, but how much of it is manipulation of acceptance on the ramps, and how much is actually a higher flow of raw material? In any case, this flow will soon start drying up, as there will be no direct influx of apples from the orchard.
Another issue is that there is one aspect favoring the processing plants - the rates for dessert apples. In any case, the difference between the purchase prices of industrial varieties and the prices of small dessert apples is still relatively small. So much so that some orchardists may be willing to dump such apples on the ramp. But how many such deliveries will there be in conditions of a supply gap in the fresh market, when the prices of dessert apples start rising along with the increasing scale of exports?
The purchase prices of ordinary industry have dropped by 11 percent so far, and of the dry industry by 14 percent. However, it is worth noting that this decrease, at least for now, is smaller than the previous one. The difference may not be huge, but it is there. The average price of ordinary industry is 3 grosze higher than in the third decade of August, and the price of dry industry is 4 grosze higher than it was then.
