What are the prices of summer apples?

2024-07-18 09:54

This year we have a fruit season that started much earlier than usual for all domestic varieties. Apples are no exception. This can be seen by the fact that we are only in the second decade of July, and the Paulared variety has already appeared on the market, which normally starts the season in August. On the other hand, the earliest variety, Early Geneva, is disappearing.

Of course, the wholesale market for early apples is still quite limited in terms of volumes. Even taking into account its very early start, there is no talk of high supply of these varieties, especially Paulared. Geneva, as mentioned earlier, is already disappearing from the market. Therefore, Piros dominates this segment. But there is still a noticeable demand for last year's apples from the fruit cooperative.

And how are wholesale prices for early apples shaping up in such an atypical season? The first price drops for Piros and Paulared have already been noted, but they are still higher than at the beginning of last year's season, not to mention prices from two years ago. Currently, Piros prices in large quantities (wholesale) are mostly 3.50-4.50 PLN/kg (0.81-1.05 EUR/kg), which is +10 percent year-on-year. Paulared prices are currently mostly 4.00-4.50 PLN/kg (0.93-1.05 EUR/kg), which is +13 percent compared to the prices at the beginning of last year's season.

Early Geneva, with decreasing supply, has strengthened its wholesale prices. Currently, in wholesale, it is mostly 2.50-3.50 PLN/kg (0.58-0.81 EUR/kg). This is about 6 percent more year-on-year. In the case of this variety, prices can also be compared to those from two years ago. Currently, it is a whopping 50 percent more expensive compared to July 2022.
