The multinational company Chiquita has announced a significant move towards increasing local production in Europe by launching a pilot project to grow organic bananas in Sicily. This project is in partnership with the Ragusa-based cooperative Alba Bio. The plan is to plant around 20,000 banana plants starting this fall.
