Strawberries in Germany are increasingly being produced in greenhouses rather than in open fields.

In 2023, as reported by the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE), strawberries were cultivated on a total of 14,010 hectares - a decrease of nearly a quarter compared to 2015. This is mainly due to the fact that fewer strawberries are being produced in open fields (-5,669 hectares).
