Cherries - still with a chance for record prices at the end of the season

The Polish cherry trading season of 2024 is coming to an end. The finale is happening with much less excitement than its earlier stages, especially compared to the disastrous price beginning of this campaign. Even the recent downward correction in wholesale cherry prices does not stir up much emotion anymore.

Currently, the selling prices of these fruits in wholesale are mostly in the range of 12.00-16.00 PLN/kg (2.80-3.74 EUR/kg). As seen in the chart, despite the recent correction, this is still a record-high price level. Higher than the prices from the previous five seasons. The question is whether these recent discounts are indeed a correction or a trend. A trend that could bring current prices below the 2020 levels by the end of July.

For now, there is still a chance that this might not happen. The cherry supply is decreasing, which should help stabilize prices. Additionally, the fact that other fruits are not very cheap either (except for plums, where price trends are highly unfavorable). A record-high price at the end would be a good completion of the season that started so badly for Polish cherry producers.
