Prices of chokeberries are increasing.

Last year, we had a late start to the chokeberries buying campaign, as it began in the latter half of August. In the 34th week of 2023, the season was just starting to take shape. This year, the schedule is clearly ahead of last year's. As for chokeberries purchase prices, a lot has already happened since the start of this year's season three weeks ago.

Initially, we had high prices at the beginning of the campaign and a very rapid and drastic drop in prices during the first few days of actual fruit procurement. We wrote about it on the pages of fresh-market.pl. Now, however, we are observing a reverse trend, although it is far less dynamic than the aforementioned price drop at the beginning of this month.

Chokeberries purchase prices started to strengthen in the middle of this month, but these changes have so far led to an average increase of about 17 percent. This is not much considering that earlier aronia purchase prices had dropped to a very low level - only 0.80-1.00 PLN/kg (0.19-0.23 EUR/kg).

These are not record low prices for this fruit, as it is known that the chokeberries market has been experiencing difficult times each season for several years. But taking into account the fact that this year's harvest is very low, an average purchase price at the level of 0.90 PLN/kg (0.21 EUR/kg) is simply dramatic. Now it's a bit better, as prices have strengthened to the range of 0.90-1.20 PLN/kg (0.21-0.28 EUR/kg), and there still seems to be some potential for further growth. However, it will not be significant (if it happens at all), and generally speaking, we will not have the good year for Polish chokeberries that producers have been eagerly anticipating.
