End of currant buying.

The campaign to buy currants for processing has ended. It concluded much faster than last year and quicker than in previous years. The faster end was anticipated even before it began. This was the result of very rapid vegetation in the early spring period. Due to this and the very large losses in yields caused by frost in April and May, this season will undoubtedly go down in history as exceptional.

Moreover, the mentioned yield losses resulted in very poor harvests and consequently high prices. From the beginning of the purchasing campaign to its end, the prices of red currants were not record-breaking, but still higher than last year. The prices of black currants, the main focus of this campaign, broke all records. They even surpassed those of the memorable year 2022.

Regarding the purchase prices of black currants, they saw only minor fluctuations in July, all of which were upward corrections. As a result, the season ended with prices ranging from 8.00-9.30 PLN/kg (1.88-2.19 EUR/kg) for these fruits, with prices for freezing being only slightly higher than those intended for pressing. Red currant prices showed slightly more variability. At the beginning of July, they even experienced an average decrease of 10 percent, but quickly recovered and ended the season at 1.20-2.00 PLN/kg (0.28-0.47 EUR/kg), depending on their purpose. These were the highest prices in six years.
