Red currants - there are still interested people.
This year's campaign of buying currants for processing in our country has basically already ended. However, as is usually the case in such situations - referring to unusual seasons with an early start and also an earlier end than usual, there are still entities on our market that would gladly buy more currants to fulfill their plans.
At the beginning of August, there are only a few such entities left. But there are very, very few currants available now. And only red currants are in play. The low supply of these currants is evidenced by the evolution of their prices in the fresh market.
Not long ago, the prevailing price levels in small wholesale were 5.00-7.00 PLN/kg, which is approximately 1.16-1.63 EUR/kg. Now it is mostly 7.00-12.00 PLN/kg, or about 1.63-2.79 EUR/kg, and there are already offers from producers at prices of 15.00-20.00 PLN/kg (3.49-4.65 EUR/kg)! There are very few fruits left.
This is also reflected in the prices of buying red currants for processing. Specifically, these are fruits purchased for freezing. Currently, their prices are mostly 2.10-2.15 PLN/kg, which is approximately 0.49-0.50 EUR/kg. Whereas the regular season ended in the first half of last month with prices ranging from 1.20-2.00 PLN/kg (0.28-0.47 EUR/kg), depending on the region of the country and the destination of the raw material. Currants for freezing had prices of 1.60-2.00 PLN/kg (0.37-0.47 EUR/kg) at that time.
