Will the prices for buying currants remain stable?
The industrial currant buying season is marked by high prices this year. Especially when it comes to black currant prices. Since the beginning of the campaign, they have been at historically high, record levels. Red currants are more expensive than in the previous five years, but not record-breaking. We have already written about this on the pages of fresh-market.pl.
Moreover, it turns out that its end will be much earlier, just like the start of the campaign was earlier. In fact, it can be stated that a significant portion of this market has already concluded the campaign. The reason is the very low supply of currants. However, the demand, even at such high prices, is high. If someone could now deliver black currants even in truckloads, they would find buyers without any problem.
And how are the buying prices shaping up? After some strengthening in the first week of July, the prices have stabilized. Black currants are currently most commonly purchased at 8.00-8.60 PLN/kg (1.88-2.02 EUR/kg) for fruits for pressing and 8.50-9.30 PLN/kg (1.99-2.18 EUR/kg) for freezing fruits. As seen in the chart, such price levels are sufficient to keep the entire current season exceptionally expensive.
Prices for red currants remain much lower than black currants. But, as mentioned, they are higher than in the previous five seasons. They are not record-breaking, as in the 2018 campaign they reached 2.50 PLN/kg (0.59 EUR/kg), and the year before, in the 2017 season, it was even up to 4.00 PLN/kg (0.94 EUR/kg). Now prices are mostly at 1.10-1.20 PLN/kg (0.26-0.28 EUR/kg) for pressing fruits and up to 2.00 PLN/kg (0.47 EUR/kg) for freezing fruits, indicating a slight upward trend for these fruits.
