Ryp Labs, based near Seattle and operating out of a laboratory in Leuven, Belgium, has taken a cue from the way plants produce substances to defend themselves against fungal and bacterial attack and climatic stress to create a plant-based chemical formulation capable of increasing the shelf-life of the fruit.
