Another season of the more expensive Ligola is coming up.
Not long ago, Ligol did not stand out in terms of wholesale prices among Polish red apple varieties. But this situation has started to change. However, it is important to note that for now, these changes are more about the decrease in prices of other varieties, rather than an increase specifically in Ligol prices.
On the other hand, the lack of a price decrease for Ligol in large wholesale quantities, and even a slight strengthening of prices, is a very significant trend. Especially considering that this is happening at higher price levels than in comparable periods in previous years. Currently, Ligol prices for sorting (caliber 70+) are mostly between 1.60-1.80 PLN/kg, which is 17 percent more year-on-year and a whopping 53 percent above the average from the previous 5 years.
It seems that the scenario of a second-tier season, in which Ligol prices reach above-average levels on the Polish dessert apple market, is becoming increasingly likely. On one hand, this is because it appears that there is a repeat of strong demand for dessert Ligol apples. However, the situation in industrial apple procurement should also have a significant impact. There is a high demand for Ligol apples for processing, with prices around 1.40 PLN/kg. This encourages producers to sell fruits of this variety, which poses a risk of quality loss.
