The Swiss Orange Apple is considered to be the first apple variety bred in Switzerland using classical breeding methods, and was launched in 1954. The variety comes from the breeding program of the former Swiss Federal Research Station for Fruit, Viticulture and Horticulture in Wädenswil - now Agroscope.
