Along with bananas and oranges, apples are among the three most consumed fruits in Brazil. Of the country's annual production of around 1 million tons, 90 percent is consumed domestically, which is approximately 900,000 tons or 4.5 kilos per inhabitant. The remaining 10 percent is used for industrial processing.
