What are the prices of Golden Delicious apples?

Polish Golden Delicious apples have entered the regular phase of the 2024/2025 commercial season. Their prices in large wholesale, in the second decade of October, did not differ from the prices of most of our domestic apple varieties. But is this good or bad news for producers?

As can be seen, the average price curve in the current season remains flat for now, and very significantly, below last year's level. This is a different situation compared to other Polish apples, which are generally more expensive than last year. Of course, the reason for this is the weaker harvest this year. But Golden apples do not fall into this group. They are slightly cheaper than last year. Even though, as mentioned above, their prices do not differ from the national average (excluding Gala prices). Currently, prices for apples with a caliber of 70+ in wholesale sorting range mostly from 1.60-1.70 PLN/kg.

The issue is that Golden apples have always been slightly more expensive than most varieties offered in the European market. Primarily due to the higher demand in the export market, but it must be remembered that the production costs for this apple are also higher. Now, producers are facing higher costs without a price premium for higher demand.

For the second year in a row, Golden apples are experiencing a decline in global interest from importers. Not due to changes in consumer tastes worldwide, but because it has difficulties reaching many countries where this demand was generated. This has dramatically affected the sale of Golden apples in the latter half of the last season, and it is impacting the prices of this variety from the beginning of the current season. Currently, there are also no signs of improvement in this situation.
