Heat stress and decreased planting pressure are affecting Spain's potato sector in 2026.

The potato season in Spain started in Andalusia with delayed planting due to a series of storms. Marco Román, president of the potato sector at Asociafruit, stated that the planted area was reduced by 5%, which is around 10,000 hectares. Despite this, a higher yield is still expected compared to 2025.
