What are the prices of peaches, nectarines, and apricots?
This year, just like last year, Southern European countries avoided major frost damage in stone fruit production. This was evident in the wholesale prices of peaches, nectarines, and apricots from imports offered on the Polish market. These prices quickly entered a typical seasonal downward trend. And it was a dynamic trend, similar to last year.
There was only one difference, but an important one - everything happened faster than usual. The fruit season across Europe was accelerated this year. This is significant because this season brings the first information that the first phase of the campaign - with increasing supply - is coming to an end. Now the second phase begins, where supply will decrease and prices will rise.
How does this look in the large wholesale market in Poland? Imported peach prices fell by 44 percent from early June to early July, stabilizing at an average level of 4.50 PLN/kg (1.05 EUR/kg) (compared to 4.00 PLN/kg (0.93 EUR/kg) last year) until mid-month. Now we are seeing slightly higher prices, ranging from 4.50-6.00 PLN/kg (1.05-1.40 EUR/kg).
Similarly, imported nectarines saw a 39 percent price drop in the large wholesale market from early June to early July. Prices began to rise quickly, although recently the supply of nectarines from abroad increased again in the Polish market, leading to a correction in prices to the range of 5.00-7.00 PLN/kg (1.17-1.63 EUR/kg).
For imported apricots, we had a more complex situation with a temporary break in the downward price trend of these fruits. However, between early June and early July, their average price decreased by 35 percent. Then there was a quick reversal of the trend, and now the selling prices of imported apricots in the large wholesale market range from 7.00-11.00 PLN/kg (1.63-2.57 EUR/kg).
There are strong indications that this season is progressing faster than a typical calendar, and the peak supply period is already behind us. This means that gradually, the prices of these fruits will show an upward trend. Polish peaches, nectarines, and apricots are still present in the market. This slows down the upward price trend of imports but does not stop it.
And what are the prices of Polish stone fruits in wholesale? Peaches are mostly offered at 4.00-6.00 PLN/kg (0.93-1.40 EUR/kg). Nectarine prices are mostly 6.00-7.00 PLN/kg (1.40-1.63 EUR/kg), although regionally they are also offered at 5.00 PLN/kg (1.17 EUR/kg) (e.g., at the Kalisz market). Polish apricot prices are mostly 7.00-11.00 PLN/kg (1.63-2.57 EUR/kg), although there are cheaper fruits (even at 5.00 PLN/kg (1.17 EUR/kg)), but these are of lower quality, suitable for processing, not as dessert fruit.
