Lower demand for industrial pears, but what about prices?
The peak period in the industrial pear buying season is definitely a thing of the past. This year it lasted longer than usual. The market has now entered the autumn-winter campaign period. The demand for industrial pears has decreased, which is a seasonal phenomenon. However, in relative terms, compared to the same phase in previous seasons, it is still quite good.
This can be seen in the prices of industrial pears for processing. They have remained stable since the third decade of October of this year, mostly ranging from 0.90-1.20 PLN/kg. This is slightly lower (-9 percent) than in mid-October, but the same as for most of September.
However, the current average price level of industrial pear purchases is slightly lower than last year. It is 1.05 PLN/kg compared to last year's level of 1.15 PLN/kg, resulting in a year-on-year decrease of 9 percent. This is despite lower yields this year. But it's not just about the supply. Demand is also important both overall and at any given moment. When it comes to the pear processing sector, the end of the current month will be significant. Last year, the end of November brought a significant increase in purchase prices for this raw material. How will it be this time? In the dessert pear segment, prices are already rising.
