The variety was developed by the Agricultural Research Council of South Africa (ARC), and the South African company Culdevco (Pty) Limited has subsequently been granted the global exclusive rights. For Culdevco's Managing Director, Mishkaat Anderson, CIV is an "ideal partner for development."
