The price of Conference pears is above last year's level.
So far, the prices of Polish pears on the wholesale fresh market have remained quite high, but still below the levels from analogous periods of the 2023/2024 season. This is despite forecasts clearly indicating that this year's pear harvest will be worse. The determining factor for such price relationships was the demand for Polish pears, which was weaker than last year.
However, the recent days have brought a further strengthening of prices for dessert pears, especially the most popular variety, Conference. Currently, in large wholesale quantities, these pears are priced in the range of 3.20-4.00 PLN/kg for larger fruits. Lucas or Xenia pears are priced at 2.60-3.50 PLN/kg for larger calibers.
This means that the current average price of Conference pears has exceeded the level from the previous season. This is not the first time, as we already had a temporary situation like this at the end of September, but it is still a significant event. However, will the current price be able to stay above last year's price?
This might be difficult, as in late October and then in November 2023, pear prices were rising. Whether they will also rise this year is not an impossible scenario, although it won't be easy. The demand for dessert pears, especially internationally, still lags behind what we saw back then. On the other hand, there is a good demand for pears for the industry, so lower quality fruit is being withdrawn from the market, resulting in less price pressure from that side.
