The prices of pears in Poland have increased again.
Wholesale prices of pears in Poland have strengthened again in recent weeks. It seems that there is a certain upward trend, although it is unlikely to be a long-term trend. Currently, the prices of the most popular variety of pears in Poland, Konferencja, range from 3.80 to 4.80 PLN/kg in wholesale (depending on size and quality), although there are still buyers offering slightly lower prices. Prices of other varieties (such as Lucas or Xenia) are between 3.20 and 3.80 PLN/kg.
The prices of Konferencja have increased on average by 19 percent in the last two weeks. However, the trend has been ongoing since the middle of last month and during this time has brought an average increase of 39 percent. This increase persisted even though since the beginning of the current month, the prices of Konferencja have been at record highs compared to previous years.
Nevertheless, it should not be expected that this upward trend will continue. The recent price increases have already stimulated imports. The wholesale prices of imported pears now range from 5.00 to 7.00 PLN/kg on a larger scale. However, the more expensive domestic pears become, the less competitive they are in our domestic market and in exports. It is known that they will not be cheap because the harvest was worse than a year or two ago. But with prices relatively high as they are now, as clearly shown in the chart above, significant further increases will likely have to wait. Just like last year.
