Another varieties of plums are entering the market.
In the Polish plum market, the early variety Lepotica still reigns, but time does not stand still, and on top of that, we are still experiencing the effects of the earlier start of the season. That's why we are already seeing later plum varieties appearing on the Polish market.
There are already quite a few Węgierek plums available. They are enjoying good demand in the fresh market. This is evident from the prices, which generally have not fallen in recent days to the extent that we observed in the case of Lepotica prices. Currently, wholesale prices for Węgierek plums range mostly from 2.80-4.00 PLN/kg (0.65-0.93 EUR/kg), depending on the region of the country, caliber, and fruit quality. In the past few days, the average price of these plums has only dropped by 3 percent. Meanwhile, prices for the Lepotica variety in wholesale markets are mostly 2.00-3.50 PLN/kg (0.47-0.82 EUR/kg). Here, there has been a 21 percent drop in prices in recent days.
It is worth noting that later varieties of domestic plums are also available now. The first sales offers for Mieszańec and Jubileum have appeared, with sellers asking for prices mostly around 5.00 PLN/kg (1.17 EUR/kg). It seems that while the season has been accelerated, producers from the southern part of the country are also trying to seize the leader's premium by entering the market with fruits that are not completely ready for harvest.
