Industrial plum prices fluctuate, sometimes going down and sometimes going up.

Industrial plum purchase prices have already experienced several declines and a few increases this season. This shows the instability in the demand for plums for processing, as well as the availability of this raw material. Remember that this season plum harvests are significantly smaller than last year. According to GUS estimates, this is a decrease of over 16 percent. This means as much as about 21 thousand tons less of domestic plums on the market. Even a large import will not fill this gap.

This is especially visible in processing, as the vast majority of imports are dessert fruits. Last year, at the end of August, there was already a clear supply crisis in plum processing. It was so significant that some players withdrew from the race for the raw material, and prices still rose from 0.85 PLN/kg (0.20 EUR/kg) to 1.45 PLN/kg (0.34 EUR/kg).

This season's situation is more diverse and complicated. There is no single trend directed permanently either up or down. Instead, we have a regular price swing - sometimes up, sometimes down. This is not fully visible on the chart because this year the season started exceptionally early. But even here we can see the latest peak and valley.

We also see that this week there is a slight improvement in the average price. The range of industrial plum purchase prices has shifted from 1.00-1.50 PLN/kg (0.23-0.35 EUR/kg) to 1.10-1.50 PLN/kg (0.26-0.35 EUR/kg). Is this the beginning of another upward trend? The demand for plums for processing (especially for alcohol) is high. In addition, there is a demand for fruits for drying and smoking. These fruits achieve much higher prices than "ordinary" industry. It's 2.00 to even 3.00 PLN/kg (0.47-0.70 EUR/kg), but they must be healthy and large fruits.
