Plums are in very limited supply, but what about the prices?
Plums from our domestic producers will still be present on the Polish market for some time. However, their supply has been decreasing for some time now, and this process is gaining momentum. It is also known that the wholesale season will end, as always, sooner than retail trade. Have wholesale prices of Polish plums reacted to this shrinking supply?
Let's remember that in the previous season, the beginning of October brought an increase in the prices of domestic plums in wholesale trade, due to the decrease in their supply. However, that increase was quite limited in scale (for the end of the season), at just over 20 percent by the end of October 2023. It is also worth noting that the average price for 'President' variety started October at 3.50 PLN/kg. The weak price increase at that time was a result of a high influx of imported plums.
Now, this influx is also visible, but on a smaller scale. This can be seen in the prices of our domestic plums. The 'President' variety crossed the 3.50 PLN/kg mark already in September, starting October with an average selling price in wholesale at 4.40 PLN/kg. The 'Węgierka' variety, on the other hand, was at 3.50 PLN/kg (only slightly higher than 3.40 PLN/kg at the beginning of October 2023).
Currently, the selling prices of Polish plums are 5.00-7.00 PLN/kg for 'President' and 3.60-5.40 PLN/kg for 'Węgierek'. The supply of these fruits is already very limited, and their prices have been rising recently even with the influx of imports, where plum prices from Moldova, offered directly by importers, are even below 5 PLN/kg.
