The season of domestic plums is gaining momentum.
Exactly a year ago, on June 17, 2023, we reported on the fresh-market.pl website about the start of the new plum season in Poland and how from the beginning, the prices of domestic plums were under significant pressure. This year, the plum harvest campaign in our country started significantly earlier, and now we already have not only the first early plums (Herman) on the market, but also Ran and Lepotica are being sold wholesale.
However, just like last year, the domestic plum production sector must deal with strong competition from imports. This is the source of pressure on the prices of Polish plums, regardless of whether the yields in a given year are better or worse (as is the case now).
This year's plum prices may not drop as sharply as they did at the start of the 2023 season when Herman quickly dropped in wholesale price to just 2.50-4.00 PLN/kg (0.58-0.93 EUR/kg). But currently, the pressure from imports is still significant.
The first batches of Cacańska Rana and Cacańska Lepotica plums do not have excessively high prices. They are currently priced at 4.00-5.00 PLN/kg (0.93-1.16 EUR/kg), with a noticeable increase in the number of offers at 4.00 PLN/kg (0.93 EUR/kg) this week, and a decrease in those at the upper end of the range. The prices of the domestic Katinka variety, which has been on the market for some time, are mostly 3.00-3.50 PLN/kg (0.70-0.81 EUR/kg).
