What are the current prices of industrial plums?

In the 2023 season, the plum buying campaign for processing only started in the second week of August. This year, the season started much earlier, and a lot has happened so far in terms of plum buying prices. There were no shortages of situations that could be called plot twists.

The season started in the first decade of July this year. It started from a high price level, averaging 3.00 PLN/kg (0.70 EUR/kg), which was not much lower than the prices of fresh plums. However, buying prices quickly dropped significantly as more fruits from domestic orchards appeared on the market.

Even before the end of the previous month, the average price of industrial plums dropped to 1.40 PLN/kg (0.33 EUR/kg), a decrease of 53 percent. However, by the end of July, it rose to 1.70 PLN/kg (0.40 EUR/kg), as more buyers were interested in purchasing plums for alcohol production, an increase of 21 percent. These fruits commanded higher prices and pushed the average value up.

However, the beginning of the current month, along with the increase in the overall supply of plums in the market, brought another drop in the average buying price. The range of offered prices shifted to 1.00-1.60 PLN/kg (0.23-0.37 EUR/kg), with an average of 1.30 PLN/kg (0.30 EUR/kg), a decrease of 24 percent compared to the level of 1.70 PLN/kg (0.40 EUR/kg). But this situation lasted only a few days.

Just last week, towards its end, we witnessed another "plot twist," and the buying prices of industrial plums strengthened once again. This time, across the board - both the cheapest plums previously bought for a złoty and the more expensive ones destined for alcohol production. Currently, buying prices mostly range from 1.40-1.80 PLN/kg (0.33-0.42 EUR/kg), meaning that the recent increases have added 23 percent to the average price.
