Dessert raspberry prices are making up for losses.

The pricing situation in the raspberry processing segment is much better than a year ago (let's remember that last year the government launched an intervention purchase of these fruits because domestic processors did not want to buy them from producers). But the pricing situation in the dessert raspberry market has also significantly improved recently.

As we remember, and we have written about it many times on the pages of fresh-market.pl, there were many concerns among Polish raspberry producers before the season about the demand for their fruits and the prices. The beginning of the campaign confirmed these concerns. Until the third decade of June, as seen in our chart, the average current selling price in large wholesale was lower than all five prices from previous seasons included in this comparison.

The beginning of July brought a noticeable improvement in the sense that the current price was better in this five-year comparison, although the change in actual price was small. This situation lasted until the end of the first decade of this month.

However, the last week brought improvement in this regard. Raspberry selling prices in wholesale not only perform better compared to previous years but have also increased in real terms. Currently, these fruits are mostly offered in large wholesale for 16.00-24.00 PLN/kg (3.76-5.63 EUR/kg), which means an average increase of about 20 percent within a week. The current average price (20.00 PLN/kg) (4.69 EUR/kg) is higher than that of the same period last year by about 40 percent, and about 25 percent compared to the average of the previous five seasons.

This is largely due to the weather conditions. Raspberry production conditions were unfavorable in the spring (frosts) and recently (heatwaves, hailstorms, heavy rains). As a result, the supply of these fruits is low. But it should be noted that this low raspberry availability is met with better-than-expected demand in the Polish market. This, in turn, is a result of poor harvests also beyond the borders of Poland. It can be predicted that raspberry prices will remain higher than the long-term average until the end of the current season.
